Ophthalmology Research at Queen's University

A message from the research coordinator

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the research section of our webpage.  Here you will find a brief history of research at the department, information on how to contact us if you would like be part of our research program, and titles of current projects.

We have had a long history of clinical research in our department, commencing with our country's first multi-center randomized clinical trial evaluating the efficacy of different wavelengths for the treatment of AMD.  Our faculty, residents and medical students have since been part of hundreds of publications.

Our faculty members have received careers-scientist awards from the Ontario Ministry of Longterm Heath, and the Canadian Institutes for Health Research.

If you are interesting in performing a research project or research fellowship with us, please contact: Kathy Galt, Research Assistant

Sincerely,

Dr. Sanjay Sharma

Current Research:

Effect of prophylactic NSAID drops on cystoid macular edema after cataract surgery using optical coherence tomography

Comparison of efficacy of topical ketorolac, nepafenac and placebo in post-cataract surgery prevention of cystoid macular edema (CME) as measured by visual acuity, quality of life, incidence of clinical CME and macular volume on optical coherence tomography (A 1 year follow-up)

The effect of preoperative topical gatifloxacin (Zymar®) on anterior chamber sample cultures after cataract surgery

Quantitative assessment of the impact of torsional, translational, and rotational shifts in scan position on optical coherence tomography of the retinal nerve fiber layer and optic nerve
